Chennai, February 16 – Actress Trisha, responding to a derogatory comment made about her by state Bharatiya Janata Party President Nainar Nagendran, issued a statement through her lawyer on Monday to clarify her political stance, stating that "disrespect should and always will be called out."
Trisha posted the statement issued by her lawyer on her Instagram page, writing, "Disrespect should and always will be called out."
In the statement, lawyer Nithyaesh Natraj clarified that Trisha "never expected such a distasteful and inappropriate remark from someone holding a prominent position in the state's political landscape."
Trisha, he said, had made it clear that she was not affiliated with any political party and had no intention of joining one in the future. "As my client has consistently maintained, she has always taken a neutral stance on politics," the lawyer pointed out.
The lawyer further explained that Trisha had expressed her desire to be defined solely by her profession, not by any alleged political alignment.
"Furthermore, and most importantly, it is a common understanding that personal lives should never be the subject of public commentary or discussion, and that individuals in positions of authority should maintain responsibility and restraint in public discourse," the lawyer added.
The statement concluded with the lawyer requesting that Trisha's name not be involved in matters that do not concern her.
The controversy erupted when Nainar Nagendran criticized actor-turned-politician Vijay after his Salem rally, saying that the actor should focus on his family and "stop pretending to be actor Trisha." The senior politician made the statement to highlight Vijay's inexperience in politics.
Nainar Nagendran's statement drew severe condemnation from various quarters, including the DMK.
