Incident Occurred During Police Patrol in Badrakha Forest Area​

In an encounter with police in Hapur district of Uttar Pradesh, two men accused of cow slaughter sustained injuries after they allegedly opened fire on the patrolling officers, officials reported on Friday.

According to Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Vineet Bhatnagar, a police team was patrolling areas identified as potential cow slaughter sites on Thursday evening. During their patrol, officers heard the cries of a bovine emanating from the Badrakha forest region.

Suspects Opened Fire Upon Being Approached by Police​

As the police arrived at the scene to investigate, they encountered two suspects who attempted to flee. When the officers tried to apprehend the men, the suspects reportedly opened fire. The police returned fire in self-defence, resulting in injuries to both suspects' legs.

Weapons and Slaughter Tools Seized; Suspects Hospitalised​

The injured individuals were identified as Salman and Naushad, residents of Vait village in the Simbhaoli area. ASP Bhatnagar confirmed that police recovered country-made pistols, cartridges, slaughter tools, a motorcycle, and a prohibited animal from their possession.

Both accused have been admitted to a hospital for treatment. A case has been registered against them under relevant sections of the Uttar Pradesh Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

Authorities continue their investigation into the matter.
