Detentions Follow FIR Lodged by District Administration After Viral Facebook Video

Shillong, May 18 – Authorities in Meghalaya’s North Garo Hills district have arrested two individuals for allegedly sharing anti-India content on social media platforms. The arrests took place on Saturday following an FIR lodged by the district administration.

According to police officials, the two accused were detained from separate villages within the Bajengdoba police station limits. The arrests stem from a video the duo had posted on Facebook, in which they were seen shouting slogans in the Garo language that were reportedly anti-India and supportive of Pakistan.

“A case was registered against them following the FIR filed on May 15, and both individuals were taken into custody from their residences,” a senior police officer from the district confirmed.

This incident comes in the wake of rising concerns over inflammatory social media content following recent national security tensions. Earlier this week, another individual was arrested in the East Khasi Hills district for allegedly posting hate content on Facebook shortly after the Pahalgam terrorist attack.

The police continue to monitor digital platforms to curb the spread of provocative and unlawful content.
