Guwahati, Feb 4 (PTI) – Assam Police apprehended two Bangladesh nationals attempting to enter India illegally through Sribhumi district and swiftly handed them over to Bangladeshi authorities, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Tuesday.

Reaffirming the state's firm stance against illegal infiltration, Sarma emphasized that Assam would not tolerate unlawful entries.

"No place for illegal infiltrators! Acting tough on an illegal infiltration attempt, @sribhumipolice apprehended 2 Bangladesh nationals and pushed them across the border," Sarma stated in a post on X.

The detained individuals were identified as Muhida Bibi and Muhammad Kauser.

Sarma reiterated the state's commitment to curbing infiltration, declaring, "We will not allow any illegal infiltrator into Assam!"

Amid rising concerns over border security, Assam has intensified vigilance along the 1,885-km-long India-Bangladesh frontier. Since unrest erupted in Bangladesh last year, over 220 infiltrators have been apprehended and deported, officials confirmed.
