Victims include an eight-year-old boy and a 24-year-old man; CM Yogi Adityanath expresses condolences
Farrukhabad, Uttar Pradesh, May 12 – A tragic incident occurred on Monday morning in Uttar Pradesh’s Farrukhabad district, where two people, including an eight-year-old boy, drowned in the Ganga river while taking a holy dip on the occasion of Buddha Purnima, according to police reports.Large crowds had gathered along the riverbanks to mark the auspicious day. During the bathing rituals, several individuals reportedly ventured into deeper sections of the river and began struggling in the current. Hearing cries for help, local boatmen rushed to the scene and managed to pull two individuals from the water — Aashiq, aged 8, and Abhishek Katiyar, 24, both residents of Farrukhabad.
Despite efforts to save them, both were declared dead on arrival at the district hospital, confirmed Kadrigate Station House Officer (SHO) KK Kashyap.
In response to the incident, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences via a post on social media platform X. “CM Adityanath has expressed deep condolences on the loss of life in Farrukhabad district. He extended his sympathies to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured,” the UP Chief Minister’s Office said in Hindi.
Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation to ensure safety during the remaining festivities.
