In a significant crackdown on the illegal narcotics trade, Assam Police seized heroin valued at over ₹2 crore and arrested two suspected drug peddlers in the Cachar district. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the arrests and drug haul in a statement shared on Saturday.
According to Chief Minister Sarma, the operation was initiated after police received precise intelligence about narcotics movement. Acting swiftly, the Cachar police intercepted a vehicle at Silcoorie Road in the Sildubi area under Silchar Police jurisdiction.
Upon thorough inspection of the vehicle, authorities discovered 415 grams of heroin along with ₹2 lakh in cash. The estimated market value of the seized narcotics stands at ₹2.2 crore, marking a significant achievement in the state's ongoing fight against drug trafficking.
Commending the efforts of Cachar Police, Chief Minister Sarma highlighted the importance of persistent vigilance and proactive policing. "Drugs worth ₹2.2 crore recovered by @cacharpolice," Sarma wrote on the social media platform X.
Two individuals were apprehended in connection with this seizure, further investigation into their network and involvement is underway.
This recent success underscores the Assam government's continued commitment to eliminating the drug menace from the state.
