Two Killed, Four Injured in Head-On Collision Between NTPC Goods Trains in Jharkhand

Ranchi, April 1 – A tragic collision between two goods trains owned by power major NTPC claimed the lives of two drivers and left four others injured in the early hours of Tuesday in Jharkhand's Sahebganj district.

Collision Occurred on NTPC-Owned Tracks Near Bhognadih

The incident took place around 3 a.m. near Bhognadih under the jurisdiction of Barhait police station. According to police officials, both trains involved in the head-on collision were operated and owned by NTPC.

“These were NTPC’s own goods trains, and both drivers were killed in the collision,” confirmed Kishore Tirkey, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Sahebganj.

Four Injured as Coal Transport Line Becomes Site of Tragedy

The track on which the collision occurred is exclusively owned and operated by NTPC for transporting coal to its thermal power plants. Four others sustained injuries in the crash and were rushed for medical attention. Further details on their condition remain awaited.

No Involvement of Indian Railways

Eastern Railway spokesperson Kausik Mitra clarified that the accident has no link with Indian Railways. “The goods trains and the track both belong to NTPC. It has nothing to do with the Indian Railways,” he stated.

Critical Coal Supply Route Disrupted

The route where the accident occurred connects NTPC’s Kahalgaon Super Thermal Power Station in Bihar's Bhagalpur district to the Farakka Power Plant located in Murshidabad district of West Bengal. This line plays a crucial role in the coal supply chain for NTPC’s power generation operations.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the collision, and further updates are expected as the situation develops.
