
Kolkata, February 16 – Two people died in a road accident near the Joka Metro Station in Kolkata, West Bengal, according to police on Monday.
According to police sources, two people were travelling from Joka to Thakurpukur on a motorcycle on Sunday night.
It is initially known that the motorcycle lost control and fell after a car reportedly hit it from behind.
As a result, the two people on the motorcycle died on the spot.
The police are trying to determine the actual cause of the tragic accident near the Joka Metro Station on Sunday evening by reviewing footage from local CCTV cameras.
According to police sources, the deceased young man riding the motorcycle has been identified as Anjan Sadhukhan.
He is 30 years old and a resident of the Thakurpukur area of Kolkata.
He was returning home from Joka to Thakurpukur.
Another young woman was also on the motorcycle and has been identified as Priya Das, who is 35 years old.
Some police officials say that the two people fell off the motorcycle after a car came from behind and hit them.
After receiving information from locals about the incident, the police arrived at the scene.
The two were taken to the Vidyasagar State General Hospital in Kolkata.
Doctors at the hospital declared the two to be dead on arrival.
The police are investigating whether the speed of the motorcycle was too high, whether the driver violated traffic rules, or if there was another factor that contributed to the accident.
The police officers are also trying to locate the vehicle that hit the two and fled the accident scene.
This is not the first time that an accident has occurred on Diamond Harbour Road in Kolkata's Behala.
Commuters and locals often complain about the poor condition of roads in Kolkata.
New Kolkata Police Commissioner Supratim Sarkar said on February 14, "Our senior police officers have observed the situation. An accident may have occurred here previously. Measures will be taken to prevent it from happening in the future."
