Azamgarh, March 2: A wedding celebration turned tragic in Uttar Pradesh’s Bhaiskur village when two labourers were electrocuted, and the groom fell unconscious after the wedding procession came into contact with a high-tension wire, police reported on Sunday.
The incident occurred on Saturday night in the Bardah police station area, sending shockwaves through the wedding venue. According to officials, the procession had traveled from Kusmiliya village, under the Mehnagar police station, to the residence of Lalchand Saroj in Bhaiskur.
As per tradition, after the initial refreshments, the groom took his place on a ceremonial chariot, and the wedding procession proceeded toward the host’s house. However, tragedy struck when a decorative lighting fixture, carried by two labourers, accidentally touched an 11,000-volt high-tension wire overhead.
The powerful electric current surged through the lighting setup, electrocuting the two labourers on the spot and rendering the groom unconscious. The deceased have been identified as Golu (17) and Mangru (25), both residents of Jawahar Nagar Ward, Mehnagar.
The accident caused panic among the wedding guests, and emergency services were rushed to the scene. Authorities are investigating the circumstances leading to the tragic mishap.
