Imphal, February 27: In a significant crackdown on illegal activities, Manipur Police arrested two members of banned outfits on charges of extortion, officials confirmed on Thursday.
A cadre of the proscribed outfit Prepak (PRO) was apprehended from Singjamei Makha Kakwa Asem Leikai in Imphal West district. The accused, identified as Sapam Jamesbond (25), was allegedly involved in extorting money from the public, government offices, village heads, businessmen, and shop owners. Police recovered two mobile handsetsfrom his possession.
In a separate operation, an active member of the outlawed Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) was taken into custody from Imphal airport on Wednesday. The individual has been identified as Shamjetsabam Romananda Singh (23),according to an official statement.
Meanwhile, police also arrested a suspect linked to the murder of 19-year-old Laishram Malemnganba earlier this month. The accused was captured from Poirei in Imphal East district on Wednesday.
Authorities continue their investigation, reinforcing efforts to curb criminal activities linked to insurgent groups in the region.
