Accused Targeted Victims to Pressure Their Mother to Vacate Disputed Land

New Delhi, May 10 — Two men have been arrested for allegedly kidnapping two brothers in an attempt to extort money and force their mother to vacate a disputed property in West Delhi’s Uttam Nagar, police officials confirmed on Saturday.

The accused, identified as Rahul (30) and Ravi alias Kalu (23), were apprehended by the Crime Branch from Moti Bagh on Wednesday following a tip-off. Both had been evading arrest for nearly a year and were declared proclaimed offenders by the court, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Aditya Gautam.

Victims Abducted, Taken to Haryana

The abduction occurred on June 20 last year in Madhu Vihar, where the two victims—aged 22 and 17—were taken from their residence and transported to Panipat, Haryana.

According to the police, the crime was orchestrated by Rajinder alias Doctor, a neighbour of the complainant and a known land grabber. Rajinder, who has already been arrested, allegedly hired the accused to threaten the victims' family.

“Rahul and Ravi, along with an accomplice, confined the brothers and demanded their mother vacate a disputed property in Panchsheel Colony, Uttam Nagar. They also demanded money for their release,” said DCP Gautam.

Accused Have Criminal Backgrounds

Investigations revealed that Rahul, a graduate from Panipat, had relocated to Delhi in 2016 and was working as a property dealer in Uttam Nagar. He has two previous cases registered against him at Dabri police station.

Ravi, originally from Mahendragarh, Haryana, completed his Class 12 education and moved to Delhi in 2024. He was living with co-accused Rajinder and has a prior case registered in Dadri, Haryana.

Ongoing Investigation

The police have stated that further investigation is in progress to uncover additional details and possible connections in the case.

This incident sheds light on the dangerous nexus between local land disputes and criminal intimidation tactics used to assert illegal claims.
