Tragic Incident Occurred After Funeral Visit in Manikpur Village
Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh, April 11 – In a tragic road accident on the Mainpuri-Karhal road, a speeding truck crushed two men to death on Thursday evening and allegedly dragged their bodies for nearly 100 metres, police said.
The victims, identified as Devendra (40), a vegetable vendor, and his friend Ajendra alias Titi Yadav (48), were returning on a motorcycle from Manikpur village after attending the last rites of a friend named Om. The fatal accident occurred near the Dannahar police station, according to Circle Officer Santosh Kumar Singh.
Truck Driver Abandons Vehicle and Flees
As the duo rode back, a truck rammed into their motorcycle from behind. The impact was so severe that both men were crushed instantly and their bodies were dragged along the road for around 100 metres, eyewitnesses reported.
Locals who witnessed the horrifying scene raised an alarm and pursued the vehicle. Under pressure, the truck driver eventually stopped but fled the scene before he could be apprehended.
Police Action and Ongoing Investigation
Police have since seized the truck and launched a manhunt to trace the absconding driver. The bodies of the victims have been handed over to their families after post-mortem examinations were conducted.
Authorities are urging any witnesses to come forward with information that could assist in the arrest of the driver involved in this heart-wrenching incident.
