Two Missing Kerala Girls Found in Maharashtra's Lonavala; Kerala Police Team Dispatched for Recovery

Malappuram, Kerala, March 7 – Two girl students from Tanur, who went missing a couple of days ago, were located by police near Lonavala in Maharashtra on Thursday night, according to Kerala Police. The students are currently in custody with the Maharashtra Police and are safe, authorities confirmed on Friday.

A dedicated police team from Kerala, including women officers, was sent early Friday morning to Maharashtra to coordinate the safe return of the girls. According to an officer from Tanur Police Station, the team has already arrived and is completing the necessary formalities for custody transfer. The students will subsequently be escorted back to Tanur, most likely by train.

The reasons behind the girls' sudden disappearance and their decision to travel to Maharashtra remain unclear. However, local TV channels aired footage showing the girls visiting a hair salon shortly after reaching Panvel in Maharashtra.

Both girls, who are Class 12 students at a government higher secondary school in Tanur, had left their homes on Wednesday morning to attend a scheduled examination. However, they did not appear for the exam, prompting the school teachers to inform their parents. Subsequently, a missing persons complaint was lodged at the Tanur Police Station.

Kerala Police immediately initiated an investigation and successfully tracked the girls' location using mobile tower signals, ultimately pinpointing their presence in Maharashtra.

Further details will emerge following the Kerala Police team's return to Tanur with the students. Authorities hope to gain clarity on the circumstances and reasons behind the incident after interviewing the girls.
