Sukma, March 1: Two Naxalites were killed during a fierce encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district on Saturday, officials confirmed.
The clash occurred in the early hours in dense forests under the jurisdiction of Kistaram police station, where security personnel had launched an anti-Naxalite operation. Superintendent of Police (SP) Kiran Chavan stated that the operation involved a joint team from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and CoBRA—Commando Battalion for Resolute Action, a specialized unit of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
According to SP Chavan, the operation commenced on Friday following credible intelligence about Maoist activities in the region. After the gunfight subsided, security personnel recovered the bodies of two slain Naxalites. The search and combing operations are continuing to secure the area and ascertain if other Maoists are present.
With this latest operation, security forces have neutralized 83 Naxalites in Chhattisgarh since the start of the year. Among these, 67 were killed specifically within the Bastar division, which encompasses seven districts, including Sukma, known for significant Maoist activity.
Authorities remain vigilant as anti-Naxalite operations intensify, aiming to curb insurgent activities and establish lasting peace in the region.
