Peshawar, May 11 – A suicide bombing in Pakistan’s restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province claimed the lives of two policemen, including a sub-inspector, and left three others injured on Sunday night, according to officials.
The attack occurred near a cattle market along the Ring Road within the Chamkani police station limits in Peshawar. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Masood Bangash confirmed that the explosion targeted a police mobile van and was carried out by a suicide bomber.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur strongly condemned the incident and requested a comprehensive report from law enforcement authorities. Expressing grief over the loss, he paid tribute to the fallen officers and asserted that such “cowardly and condemnable” attacks on those protecting public life and property would not shake the morale of the police force.
“Such cowardly attacks will not demoralise the police,” Gandapur stated, reaffirming the government’s commitment to combating terrorism.
This attack comes amid a troubling surge in terrorism across Pakistan. According to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), the country saw a 42 per cent spike in terror incidents in January 2025 compared to December 2024, highlighting the growing security challenges.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident as security forces remain on high alert in the region.
