Pune, March 3: A Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) and an Assistant Police Inspector were injured early Monday morning when two armed dacoits violently resisted arrest in connection with a recent robbery case in Pune's Khed tehsil, Maharashtra.
The confrontation unfolded at Chinchoshi village, where police had set up an ambush after receiving intelligence about two suspects linked to a gang involved in a violent robbery in Bahul village last month. The suspects, identified as Sachin Bhosale and Mithun Bhosale, were allegedly part of a group of five to six dacoits who brutally attacked residents, severely injuring two individuals during the robbery.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 3), Pimpri Chinchwad, Dr Shivaji Pawar, who led the operation, the situation escalated rapidly during the arrest attempt.
Both injured officers, DCP Pawar and Inspector Jarhad, are currently undergoing treatment and are reported to be stable.
Notably, Dr Shivaji Pawar had previously played a significant investigative role in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist link case connected to the violence at Koregaon Bhima in January 2018.
Authorities have intensified search operations to apprehend the absconding dacoit, Mithun Bhosale.
