Hapur, Uttar Pradesh — May 10: Two suspected cow smugglers were arrested on Saturday following an exchange of gunfire with the police in the Bagdpur-Gamdi forest area of Hapur district, officials said.
The police recovered a live cow, approximately 150 kilograms of beef, two pistols with cartridges, a motorcycle, and tools allegedly used for cow slaughter.
The Accused Opened Fire While Attempting to Flee
According to Neeraj Kumar, Station House Officer (SHO) of Garhmukteshwar police station, the police had received intelligence about illegal cow slaughter activities in the forested region of Bagdpur-Gamdi. Acting on this, a team reached the location, where the suspects tried to escape and opened fire.The police retaliated, injuring two of the accused while others managed to escape. The injured suspects, identified as Salman from Meerut and Imran from Shahjahanpur, were immediately admitted to a hospital for treatment.
Accused Confessed to Recent Cow Slaughter
Circle Officer of Garhmukteshwar, Varun Mishra, confirmed that both arrested individuals confessed to being involved in similar acts of cow slaughter in the area recently.An investigation is currently underway to apprehend the remaining suspects and uncover further details about the network involved.
