Ballia (Uttar Pradesh), May 14 – Two teenage cousins tragically drowned in the Ganga river while bathing on Tuesday evening, prompting a search operation by local authorities, police said on Wednesday.
The incident occurred in Semariya Dera Purwa village, under the Shivpur gram panchayat. The cousins, Priyanshu Kumar Yadav (16) and Dablu Yadav (15), were visiting the area to attend a relative's wedding.
According to officials, both boys were Nai Basti Daljeet Tola residents in Jay Prakash Nagar and had come to their aunt’s house for the occasion. They reportedly ventured into deep waters while bathing in the river, leading to their drowning.
Upon receiving the alert, a team led by Bairia Deputy Superintendent of Police Mohammad Faheem Qureshi reached the site and initiated a search operation with the assistance of local divers.
As of Wednesday, the search for the bodies remains ongoing.
