Maharajganj (UP), March 1: A tragic accident occurred on Friday night, claiming the lives of two women and critically injuring another, after they were hit by an unidentified vehicle in the Shyam Deurwa area of Maharajganj district, Uttar Pradesh.
According to Shyam Deurwa Station House Officer (SHO) Abishek Singh, the incident took place on the Paratwal-Kaptanganj road. The victims—identified as Vidyawati (45), Sakuntala (46), and Phoolmati—were returning home after attending a 'Haldi' ceremony when the unknown vehicle struck them.
Vidyawati and Sakuntala died on the spot due to the impact of the collision. Phoolmati, who sustained severe injuries, has been rushed to BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur, where she remains in critical condition.
Authorities have sent the bodies of the deceased women for a post-mortem examination. Police have initiated an investigation to trace the vehicle responsible for the accident.
