February 16, New Delhi – Sanjay Sethi, a National Expert at the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), stated that artificial intelligence can play a crucial role in making agriculture more sustainable and resource-efficient.
Speaking about the use of AI in farming, Sethi explained that the technology can help ensure that only the necessary nutrients are applied to soil and crops, thereby improving productivity while reducing waste.
He added that AI can assist in determining the appropriate skills, machinery, and resources needed for different types of farms, enabling better planning and efficiency.
Highlighting environmental concerns, Sethi noted that land degradation and overuse of water remain major challenges. He said that AI-driven solutions can help address these issues by promoting precision agriculture and sustainable resource management.
