Pakistan Will Have to Pay a Heavy Price, Says Minister

New Delhi, May 10 — Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan expressed deep grief on Saturday over the tragic death of two 12-year-old school children in Pakistan-initiated shelling in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district. In a strongly worded statement on social media, the minister condemned the incident and warned that Pakistan would face severe consequences for targeting civilians.

Pradhan took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his anguish over the incident, calling it “heartbreaking” and a “senseless act” by Pakistan. He stressed that no amount of condemnation could suffice for what he termed a gross violation of humanity and civility.

“No amount of condemnation is enough for this short supply of basic norms of civility and humanity... Pakistan will have to pay a heavy price for targeting and killing civilians, including innocent school children,” Pradhan stated.

Rising Civilian Toll in Cross-Border Shelling

The deaths of the two school students come amid a worrying escalation in cross-border hostilities. On Wednesday, 12 civilians lost their lives in Poonch. On Friday, two more were killed in separate incidents in Uri and Poonch. By Saturday morning, Pakistani shelling claimed the lives of another six individuals, including a senior government official.

The growing civilian toll has sparked widespread outrage and deep concern across the country. The government has reiterated its commitment to protecting civilian lives and ensuring accountability for such aggressive actions.

Security forces continue to be on high alert in border areas, and diplomatic channels are expected to take up the issue with urgency.
