University of Houston and Delhi Technological University Forge Landmark Five-Year Partnership

Houston, March 27 — In a major step towards enhancing global education, the University of Houston (UH) has signed a five-year collaborative agreement with Delhi Technological University (DTU), creating new avenues for academic exchange, research collaboration, and international career development.

Strategic Academic Alliance with Global Vision

The partnership, which includes an option to renew in 2030, was formalized during the visit of DTU Vice-Chancellor Prateek Sharma to Houston. The signing ceremony was attended by UH President Renu Khator, UH System Regent Durga Agrawal, DTU delegates, and D C Manjunath, Consul General of India in Houston.

Under the terms of this general agreement, the two institutions will pursue joint research initiatives, faculty exchanges, and a variety of academic programs. These may include dual and twinning degree opportunities, offering students a chance to gain global exposure and credentials.

Leadership Perspectives on the Partnership

“We are excited to partner with DTU, one of India’s top universities, to advance academic and research goals,” said Diane Z. Chase, UH’s Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost.

“This collaboration will significantly enhance the educational experience for students at both universities, offering valuable opportunities for cultural exchange and international career development,” she added.

Echoing the enthusiasm, Pradeep Sharma, Dean of the Cullen College of Engineering at UH, said, “This partnership will not only expand opportunities for our master’s students, but also inspire many to pursue PhD programmes. It’s an exciting time for students to benefit from an international academic network that spans continents.”

Expanding Educational and Career Opportunities

The agreement promotes deeper academic ties by facilitating the exchange of visiting scholars, joint research publications, and sharing of academic resources. Students will also gain access to paid internships and cooperative education programs through the host university, providing vital hands-on experience across industries in both India and the U.S.

UH System Regent Durga Agrawal highlighted the broader significance: “As India continues to grow as a global economic powerhouse, partnerships like this will help build lasting bridges between our countries and empower the next generation of leaders.”

Aligning with India’s National Education Policy

This collaboration aligns with India’s New Education Policy (NEP), which places a strong emphasis on the internationalisation of higher education. The agreement reflects both countries' shared vision of fostering impactful global academic partnerships.

Building on Existing India Ties

The partnership builds on UH’s ongoing efforts to strengthen ties with India. In 2023, UH teamed up with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) to promote Tamil language and cultural studies. Additionally, UH joined forces with India’s Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas to develop a geoscience data repository, enabling better interpretation of exploration and production data.

About DTU

Delhi Technological University, with over 12,850 enrolled students, boasts an academic legacy spanning more than 80 years. The university offers 17 undergraduate and 35 postgraduate programs across science, engineering, technology, management, and allied disciplines, along with robust PhD opportunities. DTU already maintains global partnerships with institutions like the Illinois Institute of Technology (Chicago), La Trobe University (Australia), and Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (China).

This strategic partnership between UH and DTU promises to set a new benchmark in international academic cooperation, opening up new pathways for students and researchers to thrive in a globally connected world.
