UP Launches 'Mukhyamantri Suposhan Abhiyan' to Combat Malnutrition in Eight Districts
Lucknow, May 10 — In a major step towards combating child malnutrition, the Uttar Pradesh Government has launched the
'Mukhyamantri Suposhan Abhiyan' across eight aspirational districts, targeting over 11 lakh children aged three to six years.
Comprehensive Pilot Campaign to Deliver Daily Nutrition
According to an official statement issued on Saturday, the state has finalized a comprehensive action plan for the pilot phase of the campaign. The initiative aims to ensure nutritional security by delivering
daily snacks with 400 calories and 15 to 20 grams of protein to children through the
Take-Home Ration (THR) model, ensuring both consistency and accessibility.
Millet-Based Nutribar, Flavoured Milk and Fruits in Focus
As part of the nutritional package, children will receive
flavoured milk, bananas, seasonal fruits, and a specially formulated
millet-chikki nutribar. The nutribar, first piloted in Varanasi, has shown notable results in reducing
anaemia, stunting, and
underweight cases among Anganwadi beneficiaries. It also helped boost
attendance and engagement at Anganwadi centers due to its nutritional value and appealing taste.
Over 11 Lakh Children to Benefit; Rs 254.83 Crore Budget Allocated
The campaign is expected to benefit
11,13,783 children, with a total proposed budget of
Rs 254.83 crore, equating to
Rs 44 per child per day. The state government has emphasized the need for swift execution and
rigorous monitoring to ensure the success of the initiative.
Regular Health Assessments and Real-Time Adjustments
Regular assessments by health experts will be conducted to ensure the effectiveness of the programme. These evaluations will help monitor outcomes and facilitate real-time adjustments to enhance the campaign's impact.
