Lucknow, May 12 — Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday extended warm wishes to the state's people on the occasion of Buddha Purnima, highlighting the timeless relevance of Lord Buddha’s teachings on self-realisation and selfless service.
Buddha Purnima, commemorating Gautam Buddha's birth anniversary, was marked by messages of peace and spiritual reflection from leaders across the political spectrum.
In a message posted on social media platform X, Adityanath said, "Hearty congratulations and best wishes to all state people on the auspicious occasion of 'Buddha Purnima'! The life of Lord Buddha inspires self-realization and selfless service." He urged people to embrace a life of meditation, compassion, and coexistence and pledge to build a peaceful society.
Leaders Across Political Lines Share Messages of Peace
Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya also shared his greetings, emphasizing the spiritual significance of the day. "This day is of special importance in India's religious and spiritual traditions. On this auspicious occasion, may the teachings of the Buddha, the path of compassion, co-existence, and truth illuminate our lives," he posted on X.
Brajesh Pathak, another Deputy CM, echoed similar sentiments, urging citizens to adopt the principles of restraint and service taught by Lord Buddha.
Opposition leaders also joined in the tributes. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav posted an image of Lord Buddha and his message of peace and well-being for all. Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati paid homage to "Tathagata Gautam Buddha, who earned India the title of Jagadguru by spreading the light of truth, non-violence, and humanity in the world."
She stressed that true governance lies in bringing happiness and prosperity to the people by following the teachings of Buddha. "Neighbouring countries should also take inspiration from this. Also, the country will become self-reliant and great only by following the principle of 'Upp Deepo Bhava' — to be educated, to rise and be one’s light," she said.
The collective messages underscored a unifying call for peace, wisdom, and compassionate action, reflecting the enduring legacy of Gautam Buddha's teachings in contemporary society.
