Maharajganj (UP), Feb 4 (PTI) – A local court has sentenced a 30-year-old man to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a 26-year-old woman in 2023.
The verdict was delivered on Monday by Additional Sessions Judge Pawan Kumar Srivastava, who also imposed a fine of ₹1,03,000 on the convict, Anand Gupta, Assistant District Government Counsel Sarveshwar Mani Tripathi stated on Tuesday.
According to the prosecution, Gupta forcibly entered the woman's house on December 30, 2023, and sexually assaulted her. Following a complaint lodged by the victim’s family, police registered a case and initiated legal proceedings against him.
The court further ruled that in the event of non-payment of the fine, Gupta would have to undergo an additional six months of imprisonment.
