UP: Man’s body exhumed in Basti after mother alleges murder over property dispute

Basti (UP), Feb 3 (PTI) – Authorities in Uttar Pradesh’s Basti district exhumed the body of an 18-year-old man on Sunday, 17 days after his burial, following allegations by his mother that he was intentionally killed in a road accident due to a property dispute, police confirmed.

Circle Officer (City) Satyendra Bhushan Tiwari stated that the deceased, identified as Pradum Gupta from Purana Dakkhana, sustained injuries in a road accident on December 19, 2024, and succumbed to them on January 17 during treatment. His family had buried his body after his demise.

However, suspicions arose when Gupta’s mother, Meena Gupta, accused a pattidar (farming partner) of orchestrating the accident with the intent to murder her son over an ongoing property dispute.

Acting on a magistrate's order, police exhumed the body using a JCB machine and sent it for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death, Tiwari added.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are awaiting the autopsy report for further action.
