Aligarh, February 27 – Two individuals have been arrested for allegedly murdering a police constable who had been missing since February 18, authorities confirmed on Thursday. The body of the constable was discovered late Wednesday in a drain on the outskirts of the city.
According to officials, the deceased was identified as Amit Kumar, a constable posted at the 38th Battalion of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) in Aligarh. His family, residing in neighboring Bulandshahr district, was informed and later identified the body at the scene.
Investigators traced the suspects using CCTV footage, which revealed that Kumar had deboarded a bus with the two accused before visiting a liquor shop. The footage showed all three consuming alcohol before the accused allegedly pushed Kumar into a nearby drain, leading to his drowning. They then stole his belongings and fled.
Following their arrest on Wednesday night, both suspects reportedly confessed to the crime during interrogation. They have since been sent to jail, confirmed Circle Officer (CO) Rajiv Dwivedi.
Authorities continue to investigate the case to ensure justice for the slain constable.
