Mahrajganj (Uttar Pradesh), Feb 3 (PTI) – In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, a Nepalese national was arrested with 19 grams of heroin at the Indo-Nepal border in Sonauli on Monday, officials reported.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and local police apprehended Joginder Darekar (19), a resident of Rupendhehi district, Nepal, during a routine border check. Upon searching him, authorities recovered heroin worth ₹19 lakh, said Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Atish Kumar Singh.
During interrogation, Darekar reportedly confessed to being involved in drug peddling in the region, supplying contraband to local youths, Singh added.
Following his arrest, Darekar was booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigations are underway.
This incident highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to curb drug trafficking along the Indo-Nepal border.
