Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, Feb 28 – In a chilling case of contract killing, a constable of the 8th Battalion of the Pradeshik Armed Constabulary (PAC) has been arrested for orchestrating the murder of his wife, Meenu alias Meena. The accused, Ravi Kumar, allegedly hired contract killers for ₹3 lakh to eliminate his wife and later staged a robbery to mislead the authorities.

Murder for Hire: A ₹3 Lakh Conspiracy

The crime came to light after Meenu’s father, Jagdish, filed a complaint against his son-in-law, accusing him of being responsible for his daughter's murder.

Following a thorough investigation, the police arrested Ravi Kumar along with dentist Shanu (27) and nursing assistant Jatin (28) on Thursday. Authorities also recovered critical evidence, including:

  • The motorcycle used in the crime
  • Meenu’s stolen jewelry
  • Syringes and poisonous injections used for the murder

Motive: Unhappy Marriage and an Extramarital Affair

Additional Superintendent of Police (North) Mukesh Chandra Mishra revealed that Ravi Kumar had been unhappy in his marriage since 2015, despite having three daughters with Meenu.

Kumar, convinced that his wife was possessed by ghosts, sought help from sorcerers (‘tantriks’). Furthermore, he had developed a romantic relationship with another woman and was eager to marry her. Seeing Meenu as an obstacle, he decided to have her killed.

The Murder Plot: Poison Injection to Mimic a Natural Death

To execute his plan, Ravi Kumar approached notorious criminal Shanu and offered him ₹3 lakh for the murder. Shanu then roped in Jatin, who suggested an undetectable method: using a poisonous injection to induce cardiac arrest, making the death appear natural.

Execution: A Cold-Blooded Crime

On February 22, 2025, Ravi Kumar took Meenu to Faridpur, deceiving her with the pretense of showing a plot of land. Unbeknownst to Meenu, Shanu and Jatin were already waiting at the location.

"As Ravi pretended to show her the plot, Shanu and Jatin suddenly intercepted Meenu. Jatin injected her with poison seven times, ensuring immediate fatality. Once she died, Shanu stole her jewelry to fabricate a robbery," an officer stated.

Deception Attempt: Faking a Robbery to Mislead Investigators

In a calculated move to divert police suspicion, Ravi Kumar:

  • Parked the car at a distance
  • Hid in a nearby field
  • Called a friend, falsely claiming that he had been robbed and beaten up
However, the police investigation uncovered the truth, leading to the arrest of all three accused.

Legal Proceedings and Ongoing Investigation

The arrested individuals have been taken into police custody, and further interrogations are underway. The authorities are also investigating whether any other individuals were involved in the conspiracy.

This heinous crime, driven by personal and financial motives, has shocked the local community. The law enforcement agencies have assured that justice will be served and that such premeditated murders will not go unpunished.

Stay tuned for further updates on this developing case.
