Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh – February 28: The Anti-Corruption Organization (ACO) of the Uttar Pradesh Police has arrested an inspector from Chilh police station for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹30,000, officials confirmed on Friday.

According to authorities, the accused officer, Inspector Shiv Shankar Singh, was caught red-handed in a trap set by the ACO. The incident came to light after Hari Narayan Yadav approached Singh to register an FIR against an individual from Chandauli, who was accused of raping Yadav’s niece. However, instead of taking immediate action, Singh allegedly demanded ₹50,000 to file the complaint.

Distressed by the demand, Yadav reported the matter to the ACO, prompting an operation to nab the inspector. On Thursday evening, as Singh accepted ₹30,000 in cash, the ACO team apprehended him.

Station House Officer (SHO) of City Kotwali, Neeraj Pathak, stated that a case has been registered against the inspector under relevant sections of the law. Following his arrest, Singh was sent to jail, and further investigations into the matter are ongoing.

This incident underscores the persistent issue of corruption within law enforcement and the efforts being taken to curb such malpractices in Uttar Pradesh.
