Rampur, May 19 — The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) has arrested a man for allegedly operating as an agent of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), in a significant breakthrough against cross-border espionage and smuggling.

The accused, identified as Shahzad, was apprehended on Sunday by the STF's Moradabad unit. Authorities received intelligence inputs suggesting his involvement in illegal cross-border activities, including smuggling and espionage.

According to the STF, Shahzad had made multiple visits to Pakistan over the years. During these trips, he was allegedly engaged in smuggling goods such as cosmetics, clothes, and spices. More alarmingly, he is also suspected of transmitting sensitive information pertaining to national security to his handlers in Pakistan.

The agency confirmed that Shahzad has been booked under various provisions related to espionage. Further investigations are underway to uncover the full extent of his activities and possible links to a broader spy network.

Officials emphasized that the arrest marks a crucial step in safeguarding national security and cracking down on individuals involved in foreign intelligence operations within the country.
