UP: Three employees arrested in Rs 21 lakh bank theft case in Ballia

Ballia (UP), Feb 4 (PTI) – Police have arrested three employees of Baroda UP Bank, including the branch manager and cashier, in connection with the alleged theft of ₹21.57 lakh from the bank’s branch in Sanvara village, officials said on Tuesday.

According to Circle Officer Mohammad Fahim Qureshi, the theft was reported on January 27 from the bank branch located in the Rasra area. Following a thorough investigation, authorities identified the involvement of branch manager Chandrabhushan Rai, cashier Swami Nath Ram, and peon Sunil Yadav in the crime.

The three were taken into custody from a tea shop in the village on Tuesday afternoon. After completing legal formalities, they were sent to jail, Qureshi added.

Notably, the case was initially registered last week against the cashier based on a complaint filed by the branch manager regarding the missing funds, police said.

Further investigations are ongoing.
