CM Inaugurates Rohin Barrage, Unveils ₹654-Crore Projects in Maharajganj
Maharajganj, Uttar Pradesh – April 5:Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday declared that Uttar Pradesh will become a prosperous state and achieve the status of the number one economy in India within the next three years by eliminating poverty. His remarks came during an event in Maharajganj where he inaugurated the Rohin Barrage and laid the foundation stones for 629 development projects worth ₹654 crore.
Addressing a large gathering, the Chief Minister emphasized the state government’s vision of achieving "zero poverty" and transforming Uttar Pradesh’s socio-economic landscape.
“In the next three years, Uttar Pradesh will be established as a prosperous state by eradicating poverty. We will make Uttar Pradesh the number one economy in the country,” Adityanath asserted.
'One District, One Mafia' Replaced with 'One District, One Medical College'
Taking a dig at previous governments, Adityanath accused them of nurturing criminal elements under a model he termed as “one district, one mafia.” In contrast, he highlighted the BJP government's policy shift focused on public welfare and education.“Earlier governments used to encourage 'one district, one mafia'. We have replaced their mafia with 'one district, one medical college',” he told the audience.
UP No Longer a BIMARU State, Says CM
Highlighting the transformation of Maharajganj, Adityanath declared that both the district and the state have shed their earlier tags of backwardness.The term BIMARU, an acronym coined by demographer Ashish Bose in the 1980s, refers to the then underdeveloped states of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh.“Uttar Pradesh is no longer a BIMARU state. Maharajganj is no longer a backward district,” he said.
The Chief Minister’s visit marks a significant push for infrastructural and socio-economic development in the region, signaling the government's ambition to position Uttar Pradesh at the forefront of India’s growth story.
