JD Vance, Trump, and Rubio commend efforts that led to a swift resolution

New York/Washington, May 10 — United States Vice President JD Vance on Saturday praised the leadership of India and Pakistan for their "hard work and willingness" to reach a ceasefire, after a brief but intense escalation between the two nations.

The ceasefire, brokered by the United States, was announced just hours after both sides targeted each other’s military installations, triggering concerns of a broader conflict.

“Great work from the President’s team, especially Secretary Rubio. And my gratitude to the leaders of India and Pakistan for their hard work and willingness to engage in this ceasefire,” Vance posted on X.

President Trump Announces Ceasefire

Earlier in the day, US President Donald Trump declared that India and Pakistan had agreed to a “full and immediate” ceasefire following a night of intense diplomatic negotiations led by Washington.

“After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence.”

United Nations Endorses De-escalation

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres also welcomed the development, praising "all efforts to de-escalate the conflict" between the nuclear-armed neighbors.

High-Level Engagement Led to Breakthrough

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio detailed the diplomatic efforts, confirming that he and Vice President Vance had been in contact with top Indian and Pakistani officials over the last 48 hours. The list included Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shehbaz Sharif, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir, and National Security Advisors Ajit Doval and Asim Malik.

“I am pleased to announce the Governments of India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire and to start talks on a broad set of issues at a neutral site,” Rubio said.

The ceasefire marks a critical moment of de-escalation following heightened tensions, and opens the door for dialogue on long-standing bilateral concerns.
