An avalanche in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district has trapped at least 57 labourers working with the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) near the village of Mana, close to the India-Tibet border. The incident occurred on Friday, February 28, following heavy snowfall in the region.
Chamoli District Magistrate Sandeep Tiwari confirmed that the avalanche buried a BRO camp located between Mana and Badrinath. Mana village, situated at an elevation of 3,200 metres, is known as the last Indian village on the border with Tibet.
Rescue operations have begun amid challenging weather conditions, with teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) dispatched to the affected area. Continuous snowfall and rain are hampering relief and rescue efforts.
Authorities have yet to provide an update on the condition of the trapped labourers, and rescue teams continue to navigate severe weather to reach the site.
