Legislation Aims to Ensure Transparency and Protect Rights of Muslim Community

Dehradun, April 4 — Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has lauded the passage of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill in both Houses of Parliament, calling it a "historic" step towards judicial reform and transparency in the management of Waqf properties.

In a post on social media platform X, Dhami expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, emphasizing that the bill will significantly benefit the underprivileged segments of the Muslim community, particularly women and children.

“Under the able leadership and guidance of respected Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji, the Waqf (Amendment) Bill will definitely prove to be an important step towards protecting the rights of the deprived sections of the Muslim society, especially Muslim women and children. Heartfelt gratitude and congratulations on behalf of all the people of the state for this historic Bill!” Dhami wrote.

A Push for Good Governance and Legal Clarity

Further elaborating on Facebook, the Chief Minister highlighted the central government’s commitment to good governance and judicial reforms. He said the objective of the amendment is to bring transparency, legal clarity, and balance in the administration of Waqf assets.

“This Bill has not been brought against any particular community, but to protect the rights of all citizens. Its implementation will stop false and illegal claims, which will enable fair resolution of disputes related to land and property,” Dhami added.
He stressed that the misuse of Waqf properties would be curbed and their utilisation would be ensured for the welfare of society.

Support from Uttarakhand Madrassa Board

Echoing the Chief Minister’s views, Uttarakhand Madrassa Board Chairman Mufti Shamoon Qasmi also described the bill’s passage as “historic.” He extended his congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju.

“Now the amendment is cleared from both the Houses of Parliament and will pave the way for reform and transparency in working of Waqf boards. The Waqf property will be utilised for the poor and needy Muslims,” Qasmi said in a statement.
He also criticized the Congress party, alleging that it had "misused and destroyed Waqf properties" during its decades in power.

The Waqf (Amendment) Bill is now set to be a crucial instrument in streamlining the management of Waqf assets and enhancing their role in public welfare.
