Dehradun, Feb 26 – In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Uttarakhand Police and the Special Task Force (STF) arrested two suspected interstate drug smugglers in the Kichha area of Udham Singh Nagar district. Over 2.5 kg of opium, estimated to be worth ₹25 lakh, was seized from their possession.
The arrests were made late Tuesday night in a joint operation led by the Anti Narcotics Task Force under the STF. According to STF Senior Superintendent of Police Navneet Singh Bhullar, the suspects have been identified as Bhanu Pratap, a resident of Khanpur village, and Hemant Kumar, from Chakdaha village in Bareilly district, Uttar Pradesh.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that they had procured the opium from a supplier in the Mirganj area and were en route to distribute it in Kichha, Rudrapur, and Bajpur.
Authorities are now investigating further to trace the supplier and dismantle the larger drug network operating across state lines.
