Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, May 17 — In a shocking incident in Amauli village of Varanasi district, a 44-year-old man was arrested for allegedly beating his wife to death just a week after their marriage, police said on Saturday.

The victim, Aarti Pal, 26, hailed from the Jaunpur district and was the third wife of the accused, Raju Pal. The couple tied the knot on May 9, but their relationship turned volatile almost immediately.

According to Chaubepur Station House Officer Jagdish Kuswaha, a violent altercation took place on Thursday night, during which Raju allegedly assaulted Aarti severely over a domestic dispute.

Neighbours, upon hearing the commotion, informed the police. Responding swiftly, a team reached the spot and rushed Aarti to the Narpatpur Community Health Centre. However, she was declared dead upon arrival by doctors.

Raju Pal has been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway. Authorities have sent Aarti’s body for a post-mortem to ascertain the exact cause of death.
