Chakravarthy's Impressive Champions Trophy Performance Highlights Bowling Skills

Varun Chakravarthy has emerged as a pivotal figure in India's ongoing successful run at the Champions Trophy in Dubai, with former Indian opener Murali Vijay praising the spinner's mastery over carrom balls and flippers. Chakravarthy's exceptional control has helped him bag seven wickets in just two matches, including a remarkable five-wicket haul against New Zealand during the group stage.

Speaking during the sixth Annual Charity Golf Tournament organized by housing non-profit organisation 'Habitat for Humanity India', Vijay emphasized that Chakravarthy's unique skillset sets him apart.

"He is on the verge of becoming a world-class bowler in ODIs and T20s because it is a very rare commodity to bowl the carrom balls and flippers with such exceptional control," Vijay explained.

Natural Progression and Mental Strength Fueling Varun's Rise

Highlighting Chakravarthy's mental fortitude, Indian T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav recently commented on his composed and resilient nature, regardless of on-field pressures. Reflecting on this, Vijay noted that such maturity is a natural progression, resulting from consistent exposure to international cricket.

"It's a natural progress," Vijay said. "You've got to give your honest effort each time you walk onto the field, especially when wearing the Indian badge, which is something very special. Varun has capitalized beautifully on his opportunities, and I hope he continues to have a long career representing India."

Proud Moment for Tamil Nadu Cricket

Expressing pride in seeing another cricketer from Tamil Nadu excel internationally, Vijay said, "It's exciting to witness such talent from my home state filling up the Indian team and performing exceptionally at this level. As a cricketer and a fan, it's heartening to see such readiness and confidence among the current players."

Rohit Sharma's Team Setting High Standards

Vijay, who retired from international cricket in 2023 after playing 61 Tests, 17 ODIs, and 9 T20Is, credited the current Indian team, led by Rohit Sharma, for forcing opposition sides to constantly play catch-up.

"The Indian cricket team has consistently delivered an outstanding brand of cricket for several years now. All the players look fit and in-form," he stated confidently. "We're clearly on an upward curve, and other teams have to match us. It's going to be a thrilling Champions Trophy final, and I'm confident India will lift the trophy."

Shreyas Iyer's Dominance at No. 4 Inspired by Dhoni’s Legacy

When asked about Shreyas Iyer securing the crucial No. 4 position in ODIs, Vijay credited former captain MS Dhoni's leadership and the freedom he instilled in players.

"I've played alongside many of these players, and as a happy brother, it's great to see them excel," Vijay shared enthusiastically. "Dhoni provided the template of playing freely, which Virat Kohli carried forward, and now youngsters like Shreyas are thriving on that mindset."

He added, "The team's mentality has completely shifted. Indian cricketers now play without fear and with tremendous confidence, making it fantastic to watch."

As India prepares for the Champions Trophy final in Dubai on Sunday, Varun Chakravarthy remains a critical factor in their quest to secure the prestigious ICC title.
