Bahrain, Feb 3 (PTI): Indian golfer Veer Ahlawat wrapped up his campaign at the 2025 Bahrain Championship with a steady performance, carding 1-under 71 in the final round to finish at 4-under overall and tied for 49th place.
Despite a modest finish compared to his T-27 result in Ras Al Khaimah, Ahlawat demonstrated growing confidence on the DP World Tour (DPWT). The 28-year-old earned his spot on the elite circuit after topping the 2024 PGTI Order of Merit, securing a DPWT card through an alliance between the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) and the DPWT.
Ahlawat’s Performance Breakdown
Ahlawat, a DLF Golf Academy trainee, recorded four birdies in the final round on holes 2, 8, 9, and 17. However, he also conceded three bogeys on holes 3, 13, and 16, finishing with rounds of 70-70-73-71 over the four days.He now sets his sights on the Qatar Masters, where he will be joined by fellow Indian golfer Shubhankar Sharma, a seasoned DPWT player.
Laurie Canter Seals Victory in Dramatic Playoff
England’s Laurie Canter emerged victorious at the 2025 Bahrain Championship, securing his second DP World Tour title in a gripping playoff battle against Pablo Larrazabal and Dan Brown.Canter carded a flawless 69 (-3) in the final round, which included an eagle and a birdie, to tie Larrazabal and Brown at 14-under. However, his chances were boosted when Larrazabal bogeyed the final hole, forcing a three-way playoff.
Taking full advantage, Canter delivered a spectacular approach shot on the first playoff hole, leaving himself a short birdie putt, which he confidently sank to claim the title. This marks his second DPWT win following his maiden victory at the European Open last season.
Larrazabal and Brown finished joint runners-up at 14-under, while Martin Couvra, Ivan Cantero, Richie Ramsay, and David Puig ended one stroke behind at 13-under, rounding off a thrilling final day of action.
