Ayodhya, Feb 3 (PTI) – The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Monday called for the arrest of Samajwadi Party (SP) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan over her statement alleging that "bodies" of Kumbh stampede victims were thrown into the river.
VHP media in-charge Sharad Sharma condemned Bachchan’s remarks, describing them as "unfortunate" and alleging that such statements could cause instability in the country. "Jaya Bachchan should be arrested for spreading sensation by giving false and untrue statements," Sharma asserted.
The controversy stems from Bachchan’s recent comments outside Parliament, where she reportedly claimed that "thousands of dead bodies of devotees" were immersed in the Ganga in Prayagraj following a stampede at the Kumbh Mela.
Sharma further emphasized the religious significance of the Maha Kumbh, calling it "the backbone of faith and devotion" and a place where devotees seek "Dharma, Karma, and Moksha." He underscored that the sentiments of millions of worshippers are deeply connected to the sacred event.
The VHP’s demand for action against Bachchan has added to the ongoing political and religious discourse, with tensions rising over the sensitive remarks.
