Chennai, Feb 26: Actor-turned-politician Vijay, founder of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), took a jibe at both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) over their recent social media hashtag war, likening their exchanges to a fight between kindergarten children.
Speaking at TVK’s first-anniversary celebration in Mamallapuram, Vijay criticized the two parties for trivializing the ongoing language debate. He pointed out that while the DMK trended #GetOutModi, the BJP countered with #GetOutStalin, reducing a serious political issue to a mere online spat.
"It's the Centre’s responsibility to provide funds, and it's the state's right to receive them. But both the ‘fascism’ and ‘payasam’ factions—our political and ideological opponents—are playing with hashtags on social media. What’s happening here? They are pretending to fight and expect us to believe them? What bro, it’s wrong bro," he said, drawing laughter from the gathering.
Reiterating TVK’s stance on language, Vijay emphasized that while his party respected all languages, it would not compromise on self-respect by accepting linguistic imposition. "Anyone can learn any language by choice, but imposing another language politically and violating cooperative federalism and state autonomy is unacceptable," he stated.
The event saw a strong turnout, reflecting growing support for Vijay’s political ambitions.
