Vrindavan temples gear up for Holi celebrations

Mathura (UP), Feb 3 (PTI) – The temples of Vrindavan have begun their vibrant Holi celebrations, starting from Monday on the occasion of Basant Panchami. Meanwhile, temples in Mathura, Barsana, Nandgaon, and Baldev commenced the festivities a day earlier, on Sunday, by playing Holi with Thakur ji, according to Prahlad Vallabh Goswami of the renowned Banke Bihari Temple.

Devotional Holi songs echoed through various temples, including the Thakur Radhavallabh Lal Mandir, where the melodies will now be sung daily before the Rajbhog and Shayan Bhog Aarti in the morning and evening.

At the temples in Vrindavan, the atmosphere turned even more festive on Monday as Sevayat Goswamis sprinkled gulal (colored powder) on devotees after the Rajbhog and Shringar Aarti, treating it as a sacred prasad. A similar scene unfolded at the Thakur Radha Vallabh temple, where gulal was showered on worshippers following the morning aarti.

Holi in Braj, known for its extended and elaborate celebrations, officially kicked off across temples and will continue for an impressive 50 days, culminating on Falgun Dashami.

On Sunday, Basant Panchami was marked in temples across Mathura, Barsana, Nandgaon, and Baldev, where deities were adorned in traditional yellow attire, and gulal was offered in reverence. The temples of Thakur Dwarkadhish and Shri Krishna Janmasthan witnessed devotees joyfully throwing colors on Shri Keshavdev Maharaj, further adding to the festive spirit.

Adding to the traditional customs, the ceremonial pole for Holika Dahan was raised at temples and designated sites where the bonfire will be lit, symbolizing the victory of good over evil, as confirmed by Prahlad Vallabh Goswami of the Banke Bihari Temple.

With this grand beginning, the Holi fervor in Braj promises weeks of unparalleled devotion, music, and colors, keeping alive the spirit of Krishna's legendary celebrations.
