Water Tank Burst Injures Mother and Son in Central Delhi's Anand Parbat Camp

New Delhi, March 3 — A water tank burst on the roof of a makeshift building in the Anand Parbat camp area of central Delhi early on Monday morning, leaving a woman and her son with head injuries. The incident, which took place at around 5:22 AM, was reported to the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) shortly after it occurred.

According to a DFS official, the water tank, positioned atop a tin shed, exploded, leading to the injuries of the two victims—identified as Jaya (60) and her son Nizam (35). The two were inside their home when the accident occurred.

Two fire tenders were dispatched to the scene immediately after the report was received. The victims were promptly treated for their injuries. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Central, M Harsha Vardhan, confirmed that Jaya and Nizam have since been discharged after receiving medical attention.

Residents of the camp expressed concerns over the lack of immediate rescue assistance. Pooja, a fellow resident, described the harrowing ordeal, saying, "We live in matchbox-sized houses with no escape route in such situations. Jaya and Nizam were trapped inside their home and unable to get help despite repeatedly calling authorities."

This incident highlights ongoing safety concerns in densely populated areas like Anand Parbat, where informal housing and inadequate infrastructure pose significant risks to residents.
