Guwahati, April 6 — On the 46th foundation day of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma issued a strong message that weakening the party would equate to placing "innumerable obstacles" in India’s path to becoming a global leader.
Addressing party workers in Guwahati, Sarma described the BJP as an ideological force and a symbol of national pride. He emphasized that any effort to undermine the party is not just an attack on individuals but on the larger vision for India.
“Weakening the BJP does not mean weakening any individual. It means weakening an ideology and national pride,” Sarma said.
“It means creating innumerable obstacles in the path to take India to the world stage.”
BJP's Commitment to Nation-Building
Urging BJP workers to rededicate themselves to the party’s mission, Sarma said the BJP would serve the country for eternity, symbolically stating, “till the sun and moon are there.” He called on party members to pledge their efforts toward making India a global power. The Chief Minister also warned of attempts to defame the BJP in the coming times, especially through social media.
“Social media can be used to defame and weaken the BJP. That is why we must be strong in social media also so that we can take forward the positive things to the people,” he added.
Ram Temple and Historic Legislation
Highlighting major initiatives under BJP’s rule, Sarma called the construction of the Ram temple not just a religious milestone but a liberation from “500 years of slavery.” He also cited pivotal legislative actions like the abrogation of Article 370, the passing of the Waqf Bill, and the outlawing of triple talaq as examples of the party’s transformative impact.“If there was no BJP, a landmark legislation like Waqf Bill would have not passed… or minority women would not have got justice from Triple talaq,” Sarma said.
“There would not be development in the Northeast without the BJP.”
BJP's Growing Footprint in Assam
The Chief Minister highlighted the BJP’s wide influence across Assam, asserting its control over all levels of governance — from autonomous councils to panchayat bodies.“BJP is working to strengthen the Assamese society by uplifting the pride of the community,” he noted.
BJP’s Ideological Stand Against Dynastic Politics
Sarma drew a sharp contrast between the BJP and the Congress, taking a dig at the latter’s history of dynastic leadership.“Family-oriented politics has not entered our party so far. It has been a worker-led party and will remain so in the foreseeing future,” he declared.
“The way Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi transformed Congress into a family-run party, the BJP will never do that.”
Foundation Day Celebrations
Earlier in the day, Himanta Biswa Sarma, accompanied by Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia, hoisted the party flag at the state headquarters. Paying tribute to countless BJP workers who contributed to the party’s rise, Sarma said the BJP under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emerged as a vehicle for realizing the aspirations of all sections of Indian society. He also claimed that the BJP has now surpassed the Communist Party of China in terms of total membership — a testament to its growing reach and resonance across the country.
