Amaravati, Feb 3 (PTI): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to guide farmers away from the excessive use of chemical fertilisers and insecticides, advocating for the adoption of modern farming techniques.
During a review meeting on fertiliser supply, Naidu stressed the need to educate farmers on the harmful effects of chemical overuse, citing Punjab’s alarming rise in cancer cases linked to excessive insecticide use. "Explain the dangers of excessive use of chemical fertilisers and insecticides. In Punjab, the overuse of insecticides has led to an increase in cancer cases, which is very dangerous," he warned in an official statement.
To enhance efficiency in farming, Naidu recommended the use of drone technology for spraying liquid fertilisers and insecticides. He also called for comprehensive data collection on the types and quantities of chemical fertilisers used for various crops and their long-term impact.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister underscored the importance of applying analytics to this data, enabling the issuance of precise advisories to farmers for better decision-making in agricultural practices.
This initiative aligns with the state’s push for sustainable farming and technological advancements in agriculture.
