Kolkata, May 11 — West Bengal Chief Secretary Manoj Pant on Sunday directed all district magistrates (DMs) and superintendents of police (SPs) across the state to remain vigilant and prepared to prevent any disruptions to law and order in the wake of ongoing India-Pakistan tensions.

Chairing a high-level meeting at the state secretariat, Pant emphasized the need for heightened coordination, especially in districts sharing international or interstate borders.

"The DMs, SPs, and senior police officers have been asked to remain alert so that an evolving situation can be addressed," Pant said in a statement to the press.

The meeting comes against the backdrop of a fragile ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan. On Saturday, both countries agreed to halt all military actions across land, air, and sea following four days of intense cross-border drone and missile exchanges. However, tensions flared again just hours later when New Delhi accused Islamabad of violating the ceasefire.

Pant stated that the instructions are precautionary measures to ensure readiness across the administrative and security apparatus. He added that inspectors in charge (ICs) of police stations, civil defence teams, and other officials were also asked to maintain close coordination during this critical period.

Authorities have been urged to monitor developments closely and act swiftly to manage any potential fallout from the regional conflict.
