Channapatna (Karnataka), Feb 2 (PTI): Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar has pledged to bring significant developmental changes to Channapatna and Bengaluru South district within the next three years.
Addressing a gathering on Sunday to thank party workers and leaders for the Congress’ emphatic victory in the Channapatna bypoll, Shivakumar reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling promises made during the election campaign.
"Congress Will Change the Face of the Region"
Emphasizing the party’s stronghold in the district, the Deputy CM said, "Channapatna has strengthened the Congress party by electing four MLAs. Together, we will transform Channapatna and Bengaluru South district through development."He also expressed gratitude to party workers, stating, "This event is to repay our debt to the people. Your support has been invaluable. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah could not attend due to a leg injury."
People Have Given a Strong Message: Shivakumar
Taking a veiled dig at opposition leaders, Shivakumar said that the voters of Channapatna have sent a clear message to JD(S) leaders H D Deve Gowda, H D Kumaraswamy, and BJP leader B S Yediyurappa."I don’t wish to criticize anyone, but the people's verdict speaks volumes. Their decision is being heard across the country," he remarked.
Reiterating his commitment, he assured, "I had said before the elections that this constituency is my responsibility. We will bring change together and consistently review our progress."
Congress Pledges Accountability and Transparency
Congress leader and MP D K Suresh also took the stage, vowing to closely monitor the work of all four Congress MLAs in the district."Our MLAs must accept this challenge and deliver on their promises. The people have voted for the guarantee schemes and development. We have already secured ₹600 crore in grants, and the projects are underway," he stated.
Suresh also addressed concerns regarding the Milk Producers' Cooperative Society, assuring that the government is actively working on resolving the issue.
"We have identified 300 acres of land, and site allotments will begin soon. We will ensure that no official engages in corrupt practices," he added.
CP Yogeeshwara’s Victory a Big Boost for Congress
Reflecting on the high-stakes bypoll, Suresh revealed that he was interested in contesting from Channapatna, but the party chose to prioritize collective interest over family politics."We finalized CP Yogeeshwara's candidature. We will take care of all our party workers and extend a hand to JD(S) members who wish to contribute to the district’s development. Any rise in asset values will ultimately benefit farmers," he asserted.
In a significant electoral win, Congress candidate C P Yogeeshwara defeated JD(S) leader and Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy’s son, Nikhil Kumaraswamy, by a decisive margin of 25,413 votes in the Channapatna Assembly bypoll held on November 13, 2024.
With Congress solidifying its foothold in the region, all eyes are now on the party’s development roadmap for Channapatna and Bengaluru South.
