Two Arrested for Leaking Sensitive Army Information in Exchange for Money

Chandigarh, May 11 — In a major breakthrough against cross-border espionage, Punjab Police have arrested two individuals, including a woman, for allegedly leaking sensitive information about Indian Army movements to a Pakistani handler associated with the High Commission in New Delhi.

The arrested suspects have been identified as 31-year-old Guzala and Yameen Mohamad, both residents of Malerkotla. Two mobile phones were also seized during the operation, according to Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav.

Operation Based on Credible Intelligence

Acting on specific inputs, police first detained Guzala, who reportedly confessed during interrogation to passing confidential military details to a Pakistan-based handler. Her disclosures led to the arrest of Yameen Mohamad, identified as a second conduit in the espionage network.

Senior Superintendent of Police Gagan Ajit Singh confirmed that Guzala was arrested for sharing details about Indian Army activities in exchange for money. Investigations revealed that she had received Rs 30,000 through two UPI transactions of Rs 10,000 and Rs 20,000 from the accused Pakistani official.

Network with Deeper Roots

This development follows a similar case earlier this week, where Amritsar Rural Police arrested two men — Falaksher Masih and Suraj Masih — for allegedly transmitting photos and information related to Army cantonments and air bases to Pakistan's intelligence agency.

DGP Yadav stated that the accused were not only leaking information but also distributing payments to other local operatives under the handler's instructions. The accused Pakistani official has been named in the FIR, and further details are being investigated.

Case Registered Under National Security Laws

A case has been registered at Police Station City-1, Malerkotla under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Official Secrets Act. Authorities are now focusing on tracking the financial trail and uncovering additional operatives linked to the network.

"This operation marks a significant step in dismantling cross-border espionage networks and reinforces our commitment to national security," DGP Yadav said.

Further investigations are ongoing as the police aim to identify more suspects and expand the probe into this serious breach of national security.
