Seven Accused in Attack on Tehsildar During Raid Against Illegal Sand Mining

A woman revenue official and her team were allegedly assaulted by seven individuals involved in illegal sand mining in Maharashtra's Jalna district, police reported on Friday.

The incident took place late Thursday night in Partur tehsil when Tehsildar Prathiba Gore led a raid at the Dudhna River to combat unlawful sand extraction.

According to the police, Akhil Shaikh, Iliyas Qureshi, Azmat Qureshi, Irfan Qureshi, along with three unidentified accomplices, attacked Gore and her accompanying team members during the operation. Gore suffered injuries to her hand during the confrontation.

Police officials have seized a JCB machine and a tractor used in the illegal mining operation; however, the accused successfully fled from the scene.

The issue was prominently discussed in the ongoing session of the Maharashtra Assembly. BJP MLA from Partur, Babanrao Lonikar, strongly condemned the incident, urging authorities to invoke the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MOCOCA) to effectively tackle the growing menace posed by the sand mafia in the area.

Authorities have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.
